Family Medicine

Hi everyone! I’m excited to start a new section of the blog under PA-C that interviews Physician Assistants working in different specialties! I wanted to include this in my blog because first I am curious to really know the reason why PAs choose certain specialties, second, I am able to investigate before I one day […]

There’s a lot about medicine that I LOVE. I love learning about different disease states, different patient populations, diagnostics, treatments and how they work. I LOVE talking with patients, getting to know them and allowing them to be comfortable in giving me the reins on their healthcare. What I’ve recently found out that I’m not so in love with, is the BIG romanticization of the medical field. I am so appreciative of my role now and future role in health care as a PA, but medicine is not all 🌈+🌼 • Healthcare is HARD when you have 12 hour shifts that leave you coming home exhausted and drained to your loved ones, when you are berated by your preceptor for not knowing enough, when you’ve ignored texts and phone calls because you’ve been at the library until midnight, when the day comes that have to tell someone they have cancer, when you change a patient’s meds over and over to control their symptoms but can’t seem to find a solution, or when cost of care, insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, all of a sudden come into play. • Throughout ALL of this, I can still say that my fire is burning just as bright for medicine as it did when I was accepted into PA school, I am just so much more immensely aware of all of its challenges. As my journey continues, I want to share with you as many lows as I have highs because we are HUMAN and we’ve got to recognize that!
How happy I feel knowing that I have 3 more rotations until graduation!!!! 😄 • When 2019 started I was so shocked and thankful that this is my year to become a PA-C. It feels like such a long time coming, but in the same sentiment - time has truly flown. Motivation has been high, it’s also been low, there have been stressful moments, and moments of relief, failure and rejection have hit me in the face multiple times throughout my journey, I’m just happy to share my story with you all! • Let me know where you guys are in your professional journey (school, work) - comment below!

I’ve always been a sucker for Valentine’s Day, even when I wasn’t married or in a relationship. There’s something special about reaching out to those you care about and showing them how much you love them! Whether that’s a hand written note, a special dinner, some flowers or a movie night in with your spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, best friend, mom, dad or sibling. It’s so important to show people your love for them while you can, not just on a holiday, but every day❣️ Happy Valentines Weekend, everyone!
Happy Friday Friends! ☀️ “Your talent is God’s gift to you - what you do with it is your gift back to God” I want to encourage myself and all of you to finish out your work week strong! Whether you’re in medicine, in school, in sales, in teaching, use your talents today to their fullest 💛
With CASPA only 2 months away from its opening, I wanted to give the second time applicants some tips directly from a second time applicant 🙋🏽‍♀️ • ✔️Give yourself a BREAK, then turn the motivation back on but UP A NOTCH -After you've spent some time on yourself, it's time to kick it back into high gear because life waits for no one. • ✔️Find a way to even slightly improve EVERY aspect of your application -The best way to improve your chances of getting into PA school after not getting in the first time around is to somehow improve every single aspect of your application. • ✔️REACH OUT to those that have gone through this -I never would've known where to begin without reaching out to a PA-C in academia who gave me advice on what next steps to take. • All of the juicy details for each of these tips are on my blog right now!!! Link in bio ✨ Let me know what you think!
